Chesapeake - Alfletter Perkins, "Al", 68, of the 2900 block of Berkley Avenue departed this life July 31, 2007. Born in Chesapeake, he was employed with Richard Foundry for 20 years as a truck driver and with Chesapeake School System for 12 years as a custodian until his retirement.
He is predeceased by his father, William David Perkins, sister, Clettis C. Adams and brother-in-law, Keith D. Price. Survivors include his wife, Renita L. Perkins of Chesapeake; three daughters, Sharon M. Perkins of Chesapeake, SSgt Samoa M. Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Francis Riddick of Chesapeake; seven sons, Allen Perkins and Rodney Perkins of Chesapeake, Anthony Perkins (Sheron) of Ohio, Shawn Perkins (Monica) of Newport News, Leonard Floyd (Nicole) of Suffolk, Kelvin Lawrence (Tammi) of Chesapeake and Derwin R. Boyd (Hasina) of Birmingham, Alabama; mother, Mary Christine Harper (Thomas) of Detroit, Michigan; two sisters, Audrey Perkins of Chesapeake and Janet Burnell of Detroit, Michigan; one brother, Carlton C. Burnell of Detroit, Michigan; two brothers-in-law, Derwin T. Price (Brenda) and Robert L. Price (Ella); twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope United Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be Sunday from 12pm-5pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
