Alma V. Upton, 91, of Norfolk passed away June 4, 2008 at DePaul Hospital. She was born in Norfolk County and was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Cecil E. Upton and Maggie Peace Upton; sister, Mrs. Thelma U. Smith and brother, Mr. Leslie A. Upton, Sr.



Mrs. Upton, ?Aunt Alma?, was educated in the Norfolk County Public School System and graduated with B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Clarke Atlanta University, Atlanta, Georgia. Her love for children led her to teach for more than twenty-five years at Union High School in Caroline County (Bowling Green), Virginia.



Alma was a devoted member of New Hope UCC, Norfolk (Berkley) where she served as a church financial secretary for many years.



She leaves to cherish her memory, nieces and nephews, Mrs. Frances U. Hardy, Dr. Barbara U. Wilson Walker (William), Mr. Cecil O. Upton (Fransene), Rev. Dr. Carlton R. Upton, Sr. (Constance), Rev. Shelton H. Smith, Jr. (Marie), Mr. Reginald Martin, Ms. Gwendolyn Upton; great nieces, great nephews, great-great nephews and a host of cousins and friends.



A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2008 at New Hope UCC, 145 E. Liberty Street, Norfolk. Rev. Dr. James W. Anderson, Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held 12 pm ? 5 pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
