Amalia Theresa Wilson, affectionately called Amy was a native of New York. Born and reared in Manhattan, she is the youngest of four daughters, born to the late George R. Lawrence and Mary McCarter-Lawrence.

New York City did a great job in educating Amalia, which helped to enrich her life immensely. She attended P.S. 186, Stitt Jr. High School, The High School of Commerce, The Hefley-Brown Secretarial College, Manhattan Medical and Dental School of Radiologic Technologist, and completed her training as a Jr. X-Ray Technician at Lefferts General Hospital. She also worked with private doctors and hospitals until she began her career in the NYC Department of Health, where she attained the status of the first female technician to supervise in this specific role. She retired from this position in 1988.

Amalia was a true servant of God and did all she could to help or visit anyone in need.  She was a devoted Sunday School Teacher for many years at Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY and lived to spread the word of Jesus Christ to all who met her.  Her ever-present smile was inviting to the young and young at heart.  She was gracious and always loved looking good.  From the top of her head to the soles of her shoes, she always made an entrance to a room.

Beloved wife of the late Robert Wilson, loving aunt to Rita Lawrence, Angela Riggens (Wickie), Zahavah Johnson (Algie), and Genevieve Johnson, and a dear friend to a host of relatives and special friends.  Amalia was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mount Holiness Memorial Park in Butler, New Jersey.
