PORTSMOUTH - Annie Laura Martin Elliott 80, a resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Sentara Nursing Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, with her family by her side. Annie was the daughter of the late George Edward Martin Jr. and Sarah Boykins Martin of Suffolk, Virginia. Annie was married to the late James Linton Elliott Sr. for over 62 years and was a loving mother to six children. Annie gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Union Bethel Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Virginia.
Born in Nansemond County Virginia, February 23, 1935, Annie was a former student of Suffolk Public Schools. She was initially employed as a daycare provider at Little Tots Nurseryland and Kindergarten, Portsmouth, Virginia. She was employed as a seamstress for Pilzer's Department Store and Hess Department Store, Portsmouth, VA prior to her retirement.
Annie leaves behind six children; James L. Elliott Jr. (Jacqueline) Portsmouth, Virginia; Larry Elliott, Sr. (Marline) Chester, VA; Cynthia Wagoner, Bowie, Maryland; Sandra J. Elliott, Portsmouth, Virginia; Vernon Elliott, Portsmouth, Virginia; and Phillip Elliott (Karen), Bowie, Maryland. She leaves her cherished grandchildren Catrina Lassiter, Darrenn Elliott, Larry Elliott II, Leigh Elliott, Chrishawn W. Murray (Lionel), Stephen Wagoner, Senior Airman USAF Sterling Wagoner (Britney), California. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; Alexis, Pharaoh and Yasmeen Lassiter; Kirstenne and Destin Murray; Gabrielle and Riley Wagoner; one loving and devoted brother George Martin; sisters-in-law Pearline (Elliott) Whitney; and Roselia Elliott, East Orange, New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her husband, James L. Elliott Sr., she was predeceased by one brother Charles Martin and two sisters Julia Martin Bell and Tina Martin.
Visitation will take place at Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home, Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m., 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, Virginia. A celebration of life will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11::00 a.m. at Union Bethel Baptist Church, 1816 Jolliff Road, Chesapeake, Virginia. Interment will be on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran Cemetery.
