Chesapeake - Annie Cecilia Perkins, 81, departed this earthly life to be with our Lord and Savior, March 16. She was born in the Hickory section of Chesapeake to the late Elijah and Margaret Brown. Mrs. Perkins received her Master?s Degree in Education from Hampton (Institute) University. She is a retired educator of Norfolk Public School System having taught at Booker T. Washington High School and later Maury High School. She was a lifetime faithful and active member of New Willow Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her grandson, Robert Solomon, Jr. (Tomeka); great grandchildren, Toni, Brenttney and Jordan; two sisters, Mabel B. Hines of Norfolk and Georgia B. Welch of Chesapeake; three brothers, James H. Brown (Audrey) of Virginia Beach; Charlie C. Brown and Willie C. Brown of Chesapeake; sisters-in-law, Lavonia N. Brown of Oxon Hill, MD, Fair M. Brown and Evelyn W. Brown of Chesapeake; Rebecca W. Brown of Norfolk; brothers-in-law, Napoleon Byrd of Chesapeake, and Paul Thompson of Norfolk; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as devoted friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Reginald L. Perkins and daughter, Janice R. Solomon as a well as three sisters and four brothers.
The family invites friends to join them in celebrating her life on Thursday, March 22, at 12 noon at New Willow Grove Baptist Church, 841 West Saint Brides Road, Chesapeake, where home going services will be conducted by Pastor John Hassell. The funeral procession will depart from the 700 block of Belmont Street, Chesapeake at 11 a.m. The burial will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Immediately following the services, the family will receive friends at the home of Georgia Welch in Chesapeake. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 2pm-7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
