Norfolk - Annie Vaughan, affectionately known as "Big Mama" of the 1100 block of Craig Street departed this life Friday, October 19, 2007, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital surrounded by family. Born June 10, 1924 in Greenville, North Carolina, she was a longtime resident of Norfolk, and the daughter of the late Rosetta and Juius Moore.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of S. Mark U.C.C where she served on several boards until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather, sister, brothers, husband and a daughter, Brenda Byers. She is survived by four daughters, Mary Russell (Larry) of California, Md., Doretha Wilson (James) of Norfolk, Annie Shaw (James) of Fayetteville, N.C., and Carolyn Williams (Tommy) of Chesapeake; five sons, Robert Vaughan (Robin) of Chesapeake, Willie Vaughan (Judy) of Hampton, Arthur Vaughan (Yolanda) of Norfolk, and Timothy Vaughan (Serena) of Norfolk, and Oliver Vaughan (Bridgette) of Norfolk, two devoted granddaughters, Angela Talbert and Erica Simon; two devoted sons-in-law, James Wilson and Tommy Williams; a devoted friend, Jackie Cross; a loving caretaker, Crystal Wilson, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday at St. Mark U.C.C. with Rev. Thomas Hart, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held 2pm-7 pm Tuesday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
