"Moving Slowly Into The Hands Of Her Heavenly Father"

Audrey Clark James, 98, of Norfolk, Virginia, went to be with her Heavenly Father on March 10, 2023.

Audrey Mae Clark was born to Herman and Everlena Clark on November 9, 1924. Audrey was the only girl of ten children. She was raised in the Campostella section of Norfolk, VA. She attended Norfolk Public Schools, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk in 1944. Audrey was a participant in the Class of '44 Alumni activities She worked in many capacities of housekeeping, and she retired from United Virginia Bank/Seaboard National in 1979.

Audrey was a faithful lifetime member of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church, Norfolk, VA. She dressed her best for the Lord, looking like a Diva every Sunday. She shared her God-given talents with her church. She sang with her beautiful soprano voice in the Senior Choir, served on the Deaconess Board, was a member of the Willing Workers, was a Missionary, and was on the Pastor's Aide Board. Audrey blessed every function held at the church that served food with her mouth-watering cabbage and much sought-after "Ms. Audrey's Bread Pudding ." She got to go to her beloved church and receive communion one last time on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Audrey loved to stay busy doing things. She drove many of her friends from her building to their appointment or to her church because they didn't drive. She traveled anytime she had a chance, going on her last cruise at 88 and getting around on her scooter. She bowled in a league well into her 80s. She even got to ride on a motorcycle when she was around 80. When she could no longer physically do things, she would look at the cards and pictures from her family, friends, and adventures she had experienced.

Audrey often said, "I'm moving slow so that I can go some mo, cause if I move too fast, then I won't last ." On March 10, 2023, The Lord welcomed her, allowing her to move slowly into His Kingdom to get her crown.

Preceding her in death are her loving husband Robert James, her parents Herman and Everlena Clark, and her brothers Herbert, Harold, Russell, Leon, Leonard, Reginald "Red", and Lionel. Also her sisters by love Edna, Rebecca, Lessie, Thelma, and Eliza.

Loved ones left behind, as she would say, "not complaining, just explaining," their sorrow are her children, Andrea Denise Pitt, Avelyn Chambers (Lawrence), Arthone Drisdom (Odell), and a loving goddaughter, Florence Brown. Her grandchildren are Audra Jeffries (Jon), Lawrence Chambers III (Courtney), Andre Drisdom (Kendra), Aaron Drisdom (Christine), Anthony Drisdom, Tina Monroe, and grand goddaughter Stacy Lucas. Her great-grandchildren are Jamaine, D.J., Lawson, Aaliyah, Deiara, Aaron Jr., Cameron, Madison, Andre Jr., Kiara, Arielle, Anthony Jr., Kiana, Dari, Jasmen, and Treasure, and four great-great-grandchildren. She leaves her good friend and sister-in-law, Millicent Clark. Audrey also leaves behind to cherish her legacy a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children and grandchildren, and friends.
