Chesapeake - Avis Denise Alexander Boughes, 51, passed away peacefully November 7, 2010. A native of Durham N.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Emma Alexander.
A graduate of Hillside High, she continued her studies at Columbia School of Arts in Chicago and later at North Carolina Central University majoring in business.
As an entrepreneur in broadcast and communications, she worked as a dance instructor in video and audio productions. She also worked with the Parks and Recreation Department and as a Teacher's Aide.
She is survived by her loving husband, Frederick H. Boughes; four children, Yaseem, Amatullah, Aasiyah, and Yusuf Abdul-Malik; a sister, Ingrid Alexander and a host relatives and friends.
Hurt by the loss of her brother Henry early in life, she was yet to be denied a successful spirit. She will be loved and missed always.
A memorial service will be held 12 noon Saturday in the chapel of Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake. You may offer your condolences to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com .
