Obituary

"Rejoice Always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-1

Beaulah Ann Moore , affectionately known as "Bea," was born October 31, 1939, the fourth of six children to Boyd Moore, Sr. and Charlotte Elizabeth Small Moore in Norfolk, Virginia. She departed this life, peacefully and quietly in the early morning hour on April 18, 2022.

Bea was educated in the Norfolk Public School System and was a proud honor graduate of the Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1957. One of her proudest moments while a student at Booker T. was being a majorette. Bea was an active participant and secretary of her high school class until her health prevented her from doing so. The class of 1957 loved her so much that they attended her 82nd birthday celebration this past October.

Beaulah married Silas McClease in June 1957 and from this union two children were born: Stephen Leander McClease and Sharon V. McClease.

Beaulah continued her education at Norfolk State University, earning an Associate of Applied Science Degree in 1963. She then graduated cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1986. One of her fondest memories while working on her bachelor's degree was providing healthcare to the migrant workers on Virginia's Eastern Shore during the summer months. She described this experience as one of building humility and character and an acute reminder of the importance to share our time and talents with the lesser of those. She was so proud of her alma mater that she established a scholarship in her name for nursing students who needed assistance. She was also a Life Member of the Norfolk State Alumni Association and enjoyed cheering on the Norfolk State Spartan Football Team.

One of the most compassionate nurses you would ever meet, Beaulah began her career as a Nurse Intern at the Norfolk Community Hospital. From there she became a public health nurse with the Norfolk City Health Department, and she also worked for a time as a Community Nurse and Clinic Consultant with the Chesapeake Health Department. Her final job was as Clinic Director of Tidewater Child Development Services. Beaulah retired with commendations after over 40 years of service to the local and state health department system here in Virginia.

Raised from birth in a Christian home, Bea was baptized by the late Reverend Richard H. Bowling, Jr. and remained an active member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street until her passing. She was an active participant with the church newsletter ministry (The Christian Call); the church health ministry and she was an avid supporter and financial contributor to Ready Academy where a scholarship has been designated in her name. At First Baptist, Beaulah was the first facilitator of the "Especially for You" Human Sexuality Program for Teens.

She was also a regular contributor to The Navigators at Bowie State University, a Christian college student program directed by Rev. Osaze Murray.

Another of Beaulah's proudest accomplishments was becoming a member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. in 1989. Beaulah was an active member of Alpha Chi Chapter and served as Chapter President. She also served as the Eastern Region Secretary and as the Eastern Region "first timers" Chairperson.

Bea loved to dance! It was she that taught her family, especially her nieces and nephews and their children, the importance of the "kick" when doing the electric slide. She was also the official Moore Family Historian and could make the moistest apple spice cake and best corn pudding you would ever want to taste! The cake always paired well with her homemade wine. Ceramics was also one of her favorite pastimes and many have been the recipient of ceramic dolls crafted by Bea. Beaulah's two most memorable vacations were a cruise to Alaska and a visit to Peaks of Otter in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. Bea loved doing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper and would feel some type of way if she missed her daily crossword! In addition to the Holy Bible, Bea also found inspiration from the writer, Kahlil Gibran.

Beaulah Ann Moore was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Charlotte Moore; grandmother, Ella King; sister Familiar Burruss; brother, Benjamin Cornelius Moore; grandson, Stephen Leander McClease, Jr.; nephews, Wellington Burrus, David "JB" Burrus, Jr. and Boyd Anthony "Tony" Moore as well as her great nephew, Mark Eric Moore, Jr.

Cherished memories will always remain with her two children, the apples of her eyes, Stephen Leander McClease, Sr. and his fiancé Dona Ellis and Sharon McClease McCleese and her husband Patrick Lloyd McCleese; grandson, Edward Franklin Scott, III and his wife Mahogany Latrice Scott; three great grandchildren, Syncyre Edward Scott, Carnell Edward Rogers, and Iycsys Emma Scott; three siblings, Shirley Jean Moore Keyes, Boyd Moore, Jr., and Charlotte Moore Maull; 9 nieces, Diane Burrus, Tina Burrus Peak, Mitzi Keyes Glass, Gisele Keyes Bullock, Rhonda Keyes Pleasants, Donna Yvette Moore, Rosalind Moore, Karen Moore Christmas, and Benisa Moore; five nephews, Rev.
