Virginia Beach - Bernice Cuffee Spence, 70, of the 5600 block of Hearth Circle departed this life May 23, 2012. Born in Chesapeake, she was employed with the Norfolk Department of Social Services for 26 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Grace Holiness Church of Deliverance, where she was a pastor assistant and a choir member.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Spence Jr. of Virginia Beach; two sons, Frederick A. Spence and Troy E. Spence of Virginia Beach; one stepson, Maurice Spence of Norfolk; four sisters, Leolious C. Melton (Frederick) of North Carolina, Joyce J. Cuffee of Chesapeak, Barnetta A. Cuffee-Ferguson (AJ) of Portsmouth, and Evangelist Vernetta J. Cuffee-Lewis of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Daniel L. Cuffee Sr. (Mae) of Chesapeake and Rev. Dr. Clarence A. Cuffee Sr. (Vera) of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Ta'Nya Norman of Norfolk, and Jayden Askew of Chesapeake; two Godsons, Donald Cuffee Sr. (Deanna) of Bristow, VA and Le'Swane Cuffee-Lewis of Virginia Beach; a special daughter, Jan Cuffee of Chesapeake, four aunts, one uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held noon Wednesday at Gabriel Chapel AME Zion Church. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held 3-7pm Tuesday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.
