Virginia Beach - Byron D. Williams, Sr. was born, along with his twin brother Tyron, on September 2, 1952 in Augusta, Georgia. He grew up on Augusta Ave, until he graduated from T.W. Josey High School in 1970. He attended Paine College, in Augusta, until he joined the Navy in February 1972. While serving his country, Byron earned his Bachelor's degree in Human Resources from St. Leo University and Master's degree in Human Resources Management from Troy University. He retired honorably from service to his country as a Data Processing Chief in February 1992. Following his successful transition into the corporate world, Byron and his wife, Marcia, stepped out on faith and created Integrated HR & Leadership Strategies, Inc. in 2004.
Byron married his soul mate and best friend, Marcia in 1983. His bride was his light and everyone who knew him had a full understanding of his love and adoration for her. Together, they modeled what it means to be fully committed in covenant with God. Byron was an excellent role model for his sons, Tajarnon and Byron, Jr—illustrating for them the biblical responsibilities of being men, as the covering for their family.
He is survived by his wife and sons, as well as his daughter-in-law, Aisha Williams; his grandson Chase Williams (son of Tajarnon) and granddaughter Kelsey Williams (daughter of Byron, Jr. and Aisha); his mother Mary Hazel Stoney; his brother Tyron and his wife Beatrice; sister Deborah Burns-Robinson and her husband Nathaniel; sister-in-law Beverly Williams; nieces Kedra Jemmott, Tinecia Hopkins, Minka Brown; great-nieces Alante Ruffin and Alyssa Jemmott and one great-nephew, Zachary Jemmott; as well as a host of additional loving family members and friends.
Byron will be missed by many people who loved his quick wit and loving guidance. He would never hesitate to help those in need or offer his support to his brethren. He extended his passion for giving in his partnership with Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, "The Mount", where, in addition to mentoring, he served in multiple leadership roles. From planning golf tournaments to teaching entrepreneurial classes, Byron sought out opportunities to use his gifts and talents to serve The Lord.
On Sunday, June 29, 2014 Byron departed this Earth peacefully with Marcia holding his hand. Although he will be missed by many his legacy of love lives in all those who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service will be held 12 noon Thursday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Cathedral, The Mount, 215 Las Gavistas Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23320, (757) 547-3388. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is in charge of arrangements.
