Virginia Beach - Carlton Leon Joyner, 79, of the 1900 block of Ashmont Drive, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014. He resided with his sister, Patricia Dampier and her husband, the Rev. Nathaniel Dampier, of Virginia Beach. He was a long time member of St. Thomas AME Zion Church. Predeceased by sister Celestine and brother Herbert, his survivors include two sisters, Patricia and Carol; and four brothers Romeo, Willie, Clinton and Patrick and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St. Thomas AME Zion Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Lamb, pastor of St. Thomas AMEZ presiding. Interment follows at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be Monday, January 20, 2014 from 3pm to 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
