Suffolk – Cassell Sandy Bass, "Douce" of the 5100 block of Muirifield Loop departed this life Friday, September 11, 2009. Born in Virginia Beach, he attended Princess Ann County Schools.

Cassell worked for the International Longshoreman Association, Local 1248 for thirty two years. He was a long time member of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church.

Cassell was predeceased by his parents, Romulus Bass Sr., and Raba Carrington-Bass, and his sister, Raba Gilbert. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Dozier-Bass; three daughters: Cassie Bass and Angel Bass-Mitchell (James) of Suffolk, and Serena Thompkins of Norfolk; one son, Cassell Bass Jr. of Norfolk; one godchild, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; one brother, Romulus Bass Jr.; five sisters, Aline Owens, Jean Bass, Georgia Bass, Spring Bass, Penny Fonville; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, loving in-laws, and friends.
