Chesapeake - Catherine Mingo, 94, was called to be with the Lord on December 30, 2015 at her home in Chesapeake. She was born on August 31, 1921, to Willie Mingo and Hazel Mingo Williams.

She graduated from Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Berkley, Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk and received a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education in 1953 from Virginia State University. She was a teacher in Norfolk Public schools for 30 years, retiring in 1985.

She was active at First Baptist, Berkley as a choir member and teacher. She was a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. and the Virginia State University Alumni Association.
She is described by family members as a "constant nurturer", putting the needs of others before herself. She provided financial help for all of her nieces and nephews to attend college and faithfully cared for her mother, sister, and brother until their deaths.

She leaves to cherish her memory niece Cynthia Fallis, Phoenix; nephews Melvin C. Fallis (Sheron), Chicago; Harold Fallis (Geneva), Chesapeake; Tyrone Bray (Jocelyn) and Jacob Bray, Norfolk; great niece Kimberly Fallis, Virginia; great nephews Tykeem May, South Carolina, Tyrone May (Keisha), Hampton; M. Joshua Fallis, Chicago and a host of relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Berkely, 706 Berkley Ave Ext, Norfolk, VA 23523. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. The viewing will be held 4-7pm Friday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, and also at First Baptist Church, Berkley on Saturday from 9-11am.
