Norfolk – Catherine Olivia Freeman Purvis, 85, of the 2700 block of Woodland Avenue departed this life January 6, 2012. Born in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Solomon and Lena Freeman. She was a longtime, faithful member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess. She was an Eastern Star.

She predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Deacon Cornelius D. Purvis, a sister and two brothers. Survivors include her devoted daughter, Olivia Simmons (Terry); stepdaughter, Kathleen; brother, Linwood Freeman; sister-in-law,Verna Trotman and a host of grandchildren,nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held 3pm – 5pm Tuesday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
