Charles Edward Perry, Jr. died on February 20, 2011 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center following a two-week hospital stay. He was 51 years old. Charles was the only child of the late Charles E. Perry, Sr. and Otelia Bonds Perry.

Charles was born and raised in Norfolk where he attended parochial and public schools. He graduated from Lake Taylor High School. A nearly catastrophic illness prevented him from completing his final semester at Virginia State University. Charles was a thoughtful man whose ideas and melodious speaking voice could enlighten any conversation;
