Norfolk – Deacon Cornelius D. Purvis, 82, of the 2700 block of Woodland Avenue departed this life August 22, 2008 . A native of Norfolk, he was employed for 35 years at the Norfolk Naval Air Station un till his retirement, and he owned and operator a janitorial service.. He was a member of the Prince Hall Mason and a 50 year member of Joshua Lodge #66. He was a longtime faithful member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church were he served as a Deacon.

He is predeceased by his parents, Daniel Webster and Helen Purvis, three sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Catherine Freeman Purvis of Norfolk , a sister, Verna Trotman of Baltimore , Maryland , devoted niece, Olivia Simmons and daughter, Kathleen and children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
