Deaconess Florence Harrell was called home on Wednesday, October 23, 2014.
Florence was born on February 13, 1921, in Timmonsville, South Carolina to Norman & Lonzena Brunson. She was the first of five Siblings. Her brothers were the late Norman and Leroy Brunson; her sisters are Florea Felton, and Ella Mae Houston.
She was educated in the Florence County School District in Timmonsville, South Carolina. Florence was married to her beloved husband, Deacon Patrick Harrell for 55 years. They were the proud parents of five daughters, Marilyn Dixon, Jean Beckett, and Etta Bone. They also had two deceased daughters. During their marriage, the family resided in Norfolk and Chesapeake, Virginia.
In the 1950's, Florence joined Woodland Avenue Baptist Church and was a dedicated member and prayer warrior. On Wednesday nights she could be found at Woodland Baptist church participating in their prayer service/bible study. She served on the missionary board, as a choir member, and as a deaconess. She faithfully attended Woodland Avenue Baptist Church until she could no longer attend. Then, she attended First Baptist Church South Hill with her daughter, Jean or First Calvary Baptist Church with her daughter, Marilyn.
On October 23, 2014, Florence Harrell answered the call from her heavenly Father to come Home.
Florence was the widow of Deacon, Patrick H. Harrell. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Marilyn Dixon (Curtis) Virginia Beach; Jean Beckett and Etta Bone, Chesapeake; Two sisters, Florea Felton and Ella Mae Houston, San Diego, CA; Three grandchildren, Robin Ferebee (Mark) Chesapeake; Vernon Saunders, III (France) Gainsville, VA; and Dwayne Saunders; Four great grandchildren, Aaron Saunders, Andre Saunders, Briana Ferebee, and Vernon Saunders, IV; Randolph Harrell, Sr, Brother In-Law, and a host of nieces, nephews and Friends.
The Meet and Greet will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 6pm-7pm at Prêtlow & Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St, Chesapeake, VA 23324.The funeral will be Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 11:00am
at Woodland Avenue Baptist Church, 2736 Woodland Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23504.
