Chesapeake - Doris Louise Hunter, 80, of the 900 block of Archery Drive was called home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2012. Born in Norfolk, she was employed with the Chesapeake School System for 12 years until she retired in 1993. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Money Point, where she served in the Hospitality Ministry and as the church secretary. She loved cooking; entertaining family and friends, and relaxing with her favorite TV show "Heat of the Night."
She is survived by her husband, Henry Hunter of Chesapeake; three sons, Nathaniel Hunter (Carolene) of Portsmouth, Lumumba Lasana (Thandi) of Chesapeake, and Larry Hunter (Anita) of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Gloria Hunter of Chesapeake, Gwendolyn Hunter of Norfolk and Linda Finny of Chesapeake; a sister-in-law, Elma Gilmore of New York; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; special friends, Paulette Frederick and Saundra Norfleet, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday at First Baptist Church Money Point. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 3pm – 7pm Friday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.
