Edward James Sivels, Jr. was born to the late James Edward Sivels, Sr. and Viola Sivels on September 16, 1929 in Hickory Chesapeake, Virginia. On, Saturday, October 4, 2014, God in his infinite wisdom and love quietly called him home to eternal rest.
Edward attended Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk County Schools. He started his career working at Swift & Company – Agrichem Division – Money Point. Edward served in the United States Air Force 3700th Installations Squadron, 8th Army Engineer for 4 years. On September 11, 1951, he married Minnie Margret McCoy in San Antonio, TX and relocated to Chesapeake, VA. After his military service, he worked as an Electrical Welder with Norfolk Shipbuilding Drydock Corporation for 6 years. He worked as an Electric Welder with Norfolk Southern Railroad for 34 years before retiring.
Edward's faith in God led him to unite with Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ where he was an active member.
Edward is dearly loved by his family to include his devoted wife, Minnie Sivels of 63 years, four sons: Bishop Elect Stanley Sivels (Marie) of Enfield, NC, Charles Sivels (Ansha) of Fayetteville, GA, Larry Sivels of Dallas, GA, Marshall Sivels of Portsmouth, VA; three daughters: Sherry Sivels of Chesapeake, VA, Vivian Deborah Banks (Isaiah) of Lithonia, GA, Viola Sivels of Chesapeake, VA; seven sisters: Vivian Spence of Chesapeake, VA, Sarah Grandy of Chesapeake, VA, Catherine Cuffee (deceased) and husband James Booker T. Cuffee of Norfolk, VA, Dorothy Clemons(deceased), Bessie Tanner of Chesapeake, VA, Elaine Lamb(Willie) of Elizabeth City, NC, Norma Jean Lamb of Chesapeake, VA; four brothers: James Lamb (Bertha) of Chesapeake, VA, William Lamb(Judy) of Charlotte NC, Clarence Lamb (Argie) of Chesapeake, VA, and James Sivels(deceased) and wife Emma Sivels of Chesapeake, VA; three brothers-in-law: Charlie D. McCoy(Verdie) of Elgin, TX, Robert Lee McCoy of Giddings, TX, T.D. McCoy(deceased) and wife Vivian McCoy of Dimebox, TX; Edwood & Helen Shields of Giddings, TX. 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Extended family and friends that were near and dear to his heart. Vincent Malfitano of Chesapeake, VA and The Pieratt's Family of Giddings, TX very good friends to the family.
The family will receive friends at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, 10/10/14 5:00-7:00p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, 10/11/14 at noon held at Cathedral of Faith C.O.G.I.C., 2020 Portlock Road, Chesapeake, VA.
