Obituary

Elder Nelson Clark, age 98, went home to be the Lord, on July 3, 2023.

Elder Clark was born in Northampton, Virginia, on April 14, 1925, to the late John and Edith Clark. Elder Clark, grew up in Cape Charles VA. At the age of eighteen, he joined the Army where he served in WW11 and the Korean War.

Elder Clark moved to Norfolk VA, after he was discharged from the army.

In 1963 he met his wife, Mother Alice L. Clark. They were together until she went home to be with the Lord in August 2013.

He was preceded in death by, his sister Mattie Clark and two brothers John and James Clark, and a son Thomas, and three grandsons, Anthony, Rodney and Derrick.

Elder Clark, who was known by many as the fishman, retired from Sandler Foods and soon after started his fish business. He also loved gardening, and grew lots of vegetables.  You could see his truck on Fridays and Saturdays. Fresh Fish or seasonal vegetables,and  summertime, he has the best watermelons.

As much as Elder Clark loved his fish business and vegetables, He loved God more. He was an Ordain Minister; He wore many hats during his ministry. He was a Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, Adult Sunday School Teacher, and he preached the Word of God. When he carried the fish and vegetables to the people, he also carried the Word of God everywhere he went.

Elder Clark will be missed by many. He leaves to cherish his memories to a loving and devoted grandson, Nelson Underdue (Tonya); Three daughters, Bertha Underdue-Turner (Johnny), Lucinda Rashe'd (Haneef) of Portsmouth VA, Barbara Underdue of Norfolk VA, Four nieces, Co-Pastor Mary Darby, Pastor Mattie Jenkins, Minister Delores Nichols of Norfolk VA, and Prophetess Jeanette Ruffin of Kansas. Eight grandchildren, Angela Eatmon, Pamela Patrick, Rachel Hill (Douglas), Sheila Williams (Vernon), Nelson Underdue (Tonya), James Bailey, Keith Fleetwood (Sheila), Nicole Underdue Morton, (Derrain) Thirty great grandchildren, and two great great grand children and a sister in-law Evangelist Viola Wyche, and a very faithful friend, and caretaker, Ms. Darlene Brown.

A homegoing celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023 at  First Gospel Tabernacle, 1825 Cullen Ave., Chesapeake. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be held fom 5pm until 7pm Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Pretlow and Sons FUneral Home, 500 LIberty Street, Chesapeake.
