Obituary

On Thursday, August 11, 2022, Emma Lee Mason White surrounded by her family at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, quietly answered the Savior's call to come home. She then calmly and peacefully took her last two breaths and began her eternal rest.

Emma, affectionately known as "Emily'" was born to the late Hazel Wright Bonner and James Robert Mason on June 23, 1942 and was raised by Henrietta E. and John E. Anderson, Sr. She was a native of Petersburg, VA and attended Petersburg Public Schools. In the 1960s she was the neighborhood Avon lady and in 1972 she became the Secretary/Treasurer/Bookkeeper of Greenwood Garden Service, Inc., which was later known as Greenwood Landscapes. She retired in April 2006 after her health no longer allowed her to perform her duties.

At an early age Emma accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Solomon's Temple RZUA Church, Petersburg, VA. After moving to Norfolk, VA she moved her membership to First Baptist Church Campostella under the pastorship of Rev. Dr. HaroldCason, Sr. She was a dedicated and devoted member and sang in the Gospel Choir until her health no longer allowed. Prior to joining FBCC Emma sang in a gospel singing group,The Gospel Jays.

Emma was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, godmother and friend. She was predeceased by her parents, her granddaughter, Jasmine Patrice Nicole Butler and siblings, Paul Robert Mason and Gloria Dance. Her special warmth and love will truly be missed by her family and friends. Aside from her family she had a great love for shopping for purses, shoes and jewelry and selling items at flea markets.

Emma leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 61 years, Claud N. White, Sr., two children, Gloria White Butler of Portsmouth, VA and Claud N. White, Jr. (Dashea) of Concord, NC; five grandchildren, Larry A. Butler, Jr., Brandon G. Butler, Alyssia S., Bria S. and Ellis J. White;
three brothers, Charles Mason of Dinwiddie County, Standish J. Brown and John E. Anderson, Jr., both of Petersburg; two goddaughters, Jocelyn M. Royster and Crystal Wilson; her last best girlfriend, Virgie L. Fletcher and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2022 at First Baptist Church Campostella. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 5pm until 7pm Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the church. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.
