Chesapeake - Essie Mae Alexander, 92, of the 1000 block of Alexander Lane was called home to be with the Lord, September 10, 2007. Born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, she was a seamstress for over 50 years. She was a former member of Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, Bells Mill Road, for over 80 years, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, a Deaconess, a member of the Senior Usher Board and active in the Missionary Society. She has been a member of Mt. Olive AME Church for 4 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, Emmett H. Alexander, a daughter, Corene Roberts and a sister, Dorothy G. Lane. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn R. Alexander and Sharon A. Copeland (Lloyd) all of Chesapeake; two sons, Dr. Raymond H. Alexander (Mary) of Chesapeake, and Ledell W. Alexander (Sheila) of Indiana, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Sophia Alexander, a caregiver, Ida Cromuel, and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday at New Mt. Olive AME Church, 1953 Campostella Road, Chesapeake. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Friday from 2pm - 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
