Obituary

Ethel Davis Scott of Norfolk, Virginia passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, at her home. She was 94 years old.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her daughters, Judy Gordon and Serita Scott. She is also survived by her sisters, Hazel Crossling, Dorothy Lee, Claudia Britt and Mary Britt Sutton, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, neighbors and friends whom she thought of as family.

Mrs. Scott was born in Southampton County, Virginia on September 9, 1928. She was the first born child of Sampson and Elizabeth Britt. The oldest of thirteen children, Mrs. Scott learned at a very early age to be a care giver and helped raise her twelve siblings.

In August of 1952, Mrs. Scott met and married Lindsay Sinclair Scott of Nansemond County. They made their home and raised their family in Norfolk, Virginia. They were married until Mr. Scott, an Army veteran passed away in September,1977.

Mrs. Scott worked for many year at St. Mary's Infant Home, a residential facility for disabled children where she worked the night shift as a Certified Nursing Assistant. After leaving St. Mary's Infant Home, Mrs. Scott utilized her culinary skills working in Ledo Inn in Norfolk. Her most important job, however, was caring for her daughter, Serita.

Mrs. Scott joined Queen Street Baptist (QSBC) church in 1961 and was a devoted member. She was a member of the QSBC Usher Board and received a Certificate of Appreciation for over 50 years of faithful service.

The family would like to thank those who supported Mrs. Scott over the years. Those persons know who they are but we'd like to give a very special thank you to Lloyd Lamb, Theresa McCrae, Honor (Kita) Berry, Judy Hargrove, Pat Credle, Elisha ?, Emoline Southall, the staff at Visiting Physicians, Amedysis Hospice and Pretlow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Scott's Celebration of Life service will be held at Queen Street Baptist Church, 413 E Brambleton Ave, Norfolk, VA on Friday, December 9th. The viewing will begin at 10:00am, followed by the service at 11:00am. Immediately following the service Mrs. Scott will be interred at Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 631 Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

Cards and condolences can be mailed to Judy Gordon, at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapesake, Virginia 23324. Due to COVID restrictions, attendees are encouraged to wear face mask coverings and encourage social distancing.
