Francis Washington, Sr. 87 of Chesapeake, Virginia, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on 19 January 2017.

He was born July 3, 1929 in Jones County which later became Macon, Georgia, the son of the late Tobie and Gertrude Washington and received his schooling in the Bibb County School System.  Francis joined the United States Navy in 1948 where he served for 21 years.  He entered civilian life on July 26, 1967 and later retired from Sears and Roebuck after 23 years.

Francis was a member of the St. Joseph Lodge of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry where he earned the title of Thirty-Third Degree (33º).

Francis was predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, Cordelia "Dellia" Washington, and four children: Kenneth, Mildred, Louvenia "Lulu" and William "Bro".  He is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Speller (André), one son, Francis Washington, Jr., a loving, devoted and beloved daughter-in-law (Love), Rachel Washington, a loving and devoted nephew, William Tillett, a daughter-in-law, Dellma Bailey, a sister-in-law, Maggie Johnson, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held 12 noon on Saturday, 28 January at New Hope Christian Church, 145 Liberty Street, Norfolk. Viewing will be held  from 4-7pm Friday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
