Garland Clinton Pretlow, Jr. was born in Norfok, Virginia on November 26, 1916. to the late Garland Sr. and Lillie Pretlow. His wife Doreatha Pretlow, and his brother Roscoe C. Pretlow, Sr. preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Mrs. Doreatha Petlow-Baker, and her husband, Carlton H. Baker; one  grandson Antoine D. Moody; one granddaughter Stephanie L. Gunn; two sisters, Kathryn P. Wright and Lillie Ponds;  one nephew Roscoe Pretlow and his wife Esther Pretlow;' three great nephews, Roscoe Pretlow, Richard Pretlow, and Lester Pretlow; 'two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Loupenia Militie and Elder Catherine Yarbrough and a host of other relatives and dear friends to include Henry Lee Peebles, Ms. Minnie White and many others.
