Chesapeake - Wednesday night, November 28, 2007, Rev. Gene E. Bowers, Jr. of the 900 block of Ketch Court hastened into the arms of the Lord. He was born May 23, 1973, in Halifax County, NC to Erma F. Hyman and Gene E. Bowers, Sr.
Rev. Bowers attended Hampton City Public Schools, Hampton VA, and Howard University, Washington, D.C. He was employed at AAA of Tidewater as a Service Truck Operator. He answered his call to preach the Gospel, spring 1999, and was licensed to preach, December 1999. Rev. Bowers was a member of Calvary Revival Church, Norfolk. He was known for his loving, gentle, and quiet spirit. His great humility touched the lives of everyone, family, friends, and strangers.
Rev. Bowers leaves to cherish and honor his memory: his wife, Kamilah Lee-Bowers; one daughter, Jhasmine Alicia Bowers, 12; and a set of son/daughter twins, Jonathan Lee Bowers and Jenae Allene Bowers, 6; his mother, Erma F. Smith, and his stepfather, Bobby R. Smith, Hobgood, NC; his father, Gene E. Bowers, Sr., and his stepmother, Carolyn Drones, Hampton, VA; one brother, Allen R. Smith of Hobgood, NC; his father- in-law, Arthur Lee, and his mother-in-law, Priscilla Lee of Chesapeake, VA; his sister-in-law, Alacia Hightower (Alex) of Oak Harbor, WA; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, a great nephew, a godson, co-workers, and friends. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Lula M. Farmer, and his mother-in-law, Caroldine Lee.
The funeral will be held noon, Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Calvary Revival Church, Norfolk, with Bishop Courtney McBath officiating. The burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The viewing will be Monday, December 3, 2007, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. In addition to flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Calvary Revival Church Building Fund, 5833 Poplar Hall Dr., Norfolk VA 23501.
