Obituary

On Friday, October 7, 2016, George William Drumgo entered into eternal life while his family stood by his bedside.  George was born on July 2, 1951 to Clara Drumgo Terry and the late Willie Caine.  He is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Terry of Richmond, Virginia and a brother, Lynn Caine of Hampton, Virginia.

George grew up in Richmond, VA and is a 1969 graduate of Armstrong High School in Richmond, VA. He loved teaching and working on cars. This led him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with a concentration in Vocational/Industrial Education from Norfolk State University, Norfolk, VA and he received his Master of Education Degree, from Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA. He taught in the Vocational/Industrial Education Department at Norfolk State University for four years, before accepting a position with Virginia Beach Public Schools. Virginia Beach Public Schools charged him with developing an Automotive and Small Engine Program at the Career Development Center. He worked there for 15 years before going to Richmond, VA.  George retired from teaching but continued to repair cars until the very end.

In 1988, George accepted Christ and joined First Baptist Church Campostella, Norfolk, Virginia. His love for singing led him to serve in the Young Adult Choir and Male Chorus. He also taught New Members Classes. He was also a member of the Christian Education Board and the Sunday School.

George, affectionately called "Nookie" by family, and "Hollywood" by others, never knew a stranger. He loved people and would engage in conversations that would last for hours, if you let him.

He is survived by his son, Derek L. Drumgo, Sr. of Virginia Beach, VA, daughter, Tiffany N. Drumgo-Goode (JaShaun) of Portsmouth, VA; and eight grandchildren. Derek Jr., Sadelle and Sorell Straker, Tiara  and Trinity Drumgo,  Jasmin Taylor, Symphany and Aiden Goode; five brothers, Tony and Oswald Caine, Hampton, VA., Larry Caine, Newport News, VA., Leon Caine, Pennsylvania, and Daniel Caine, North Carolina; and eight nieces and nephews from his brothers and from his sister,  two nieces Shandra Terry, New Jersey and Eboni Harris,  and a nephew, Christopher Harris, Richmond, VA;  four  great nieces, two great nephews and a host of other relatives.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Campostella, 1510 Conoga, Street, Norfolk, Virginia. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements.
