Obituary

On December 16, 2021, God called to rest George Thomas Eason, known to most of us as "Tommy". Tommy was born in Hobbsville, N.C., on June 24, 1946. His parents, William (Buster) and Louise Eason cherished him as the oldest of their five children. Tommy spoke on occasion of his experience working in the fields of North Carolina. The family eventually moved to Waterbury, Connecticut, in pursuit of better employment opportunities. Tommy withdrew from school in about the ninth grade because he didn't have proper clothes to wear. After finding employment, he not only provided things for himself but also assisted his parents in providing for the family.

In 1968, Tommy entered the United States Army. After completing his training, he was deployed to the Republic of Vietnam as a part of the 8th Battalion, 4th Field Artillery. He advanced to the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star Award for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force. Tommy held a membership certificate to "The Guns of the DMZ". Tommy was honorably discharged from the United States Army in July 1969 and was assigned to the United States Army Reserve until 1973. After reentering civilian life, Tommy was employed by the Waterbury Public Works Department, where he remained until he retired.

Tommy married Veronica (Polly) Eason, and to their union came Chad Thomas Eason, in addition to Polly's three existing children. After Polly's death, Tommy remarried but that relationship did not last. Finally, Tommy met his "Babe," Connie. They married and remained in love until the end.

Tommy appreciated nice vehicles and whatever he drove, he kept it looking "good." One of Tommy's passions was "hitting the road" and he maintained his vehicles so that anytime he took a notion, he could hit the road. Tommy took a special liking in his later years to Cadillacs. After paying for Connie's car of her choosing, he decided to buy himself a new Cadillac. That car today is a testament to Tommy's taste in fine automobiles, and a fitting reversal for his struggles to move from rags to riches.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents, William (Buster) and Louise Eason, his first wife, Veronica, their son, Chad, two sisters, Cherry Eason and Vivian Clark, and a brother, William Eason, Jr.

Left to morn are his wife Connie, and her children, LaChelle Naar and Travelle Eason, three grandchildren; JayQuon (Poo) Jackson, and Willy (Lump) Naar III, and La Shawne Ellis; two great grandchildren, Jayshawn Harrison and Naim Glory. He is also survived by two sisters, Ellen Wilson (David) of Chesapeake, VA., and Myrtle Roberts of Hertford, N.C. Two telephone buddies of special note are Darlene Eason of Waterbury, Ct. and Lottie Blow of Chesapeake, VA. Also, many cousins, nephews, nieces, and special friends will cherish their memories of Tommy.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at New Jerusalem COGIC, 118 Bishop Thoroughgood Ave, Virginia Beach. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 5pm until 7pm Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake.
