February 3, 1952 – August 28, 2008
Gloria Jean Boyd-Shearin, 56, of the 400 block of Kemp Lane, passed away August 28, 2008. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. She went on to graduate from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State University receiving a Batchelor of Arts in Home Economics.
Professionally, Gloria worked for ARA/Laidlaw Transit for 15 years before transferring to Norfolk Public Schools transportation Department in 1991 where she held the position as a Driver Trainer. For the past 17 years she was known to many as simply "Ms. G".
She deposited a spirit of love in everyone she encountered. That love will continue to echo among her survivors including her husband Milton E. Shearin, of Chesapeake; daughter Shauneille T. Boyd of Virginia Beach; a sister Harriett Edwards of Chesapeake; four brothers Al Smith and James Smith, both of Chesapeake, Theodore Boyd (Robin) of Portsmouth, and Ray Boyd of Washington, D.C.; one granddaughter KaBrina A. Boyd, a sister-in-law Margaret S. Bell (Alonzo); a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m.
Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 934 W. Little Creek Rd., Norfolk. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St., Chesapeake; with a meet and greet with the family from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at their home at 410 Kemp Lane, Chesapeake.
