Norfolk - On September 29, 2006, God called home our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Mr. Harold C. Sawyer.



He was born October 27, 1915 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late William and Cora Sawyer. He was retired from Civil Service after a 42-year career. He was a member of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church. He was a devoted and loving father and provider.



He was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Lucille B. Sawyer. He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters: Yvonne S. Brown of Norfolk, VA and Dorothy S. (George) Hines of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons: Dr. Frederick ?Doc? (Millicent) Sawyer of Alexandria, VA and James (Maxine) Jones of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren: Pamela Brown of Norfolk, VA, Lisa Wood of Chesapeake, VA, Kimberly Sawyer of Alexandria, VA and Tyrone Jones of Hampton, VA; five great grandchildren: Dominique Smith of New York, NY, Brittany Wood of Chesapeake, VA, Falon Brown of Norfolk,VA, Nicole and Jennifer Jones of Hampton, VA; a very special niece Elizabeth "Pig" Hunt, and two special nephews, Fredrick and Eric Boughes survives him.



A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
