Mrs. Helen Lorraine Newby born in Franklin County, Virginia on August 3, 1927, departed this life on August 13, 3013. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Lee Sr. and the late Mary Evans Hendricks. Helen was educated in the Norfolk County Bells Mills Public Schools. She was baptized in Lees Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she sang in the church choir and attended Sunday school at an early age. She was employed at Sewards Marina in Chester, Maryland for over forty years.

She was married to the late Milford L. Newby from Suffolk, Virginia.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four sisters, Willie L. Twine and her husband, Luther Twine, Blanch White, Irene Townsend and her husband, Bishop Roosevelt Townsend, and Ms. Odessa Ricks; one brother, Lawrence W. Lee, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her brother-in-law, Henry White also preceded her in death.

A home going service will be held noon Monday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where the viewing will be held from 11am – 12pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
