Chesapeake - Mr. Henry Hunter, 88, of the 900 block of Archery Drive was called home to be with the Lord on May 14, 2014. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Doris Hunter.
Henry Hunter was born January 22, 1926 in Baltimore, Md. to the late Gertrude and William Hunter. He was employed with Kinder Morgan formerly ERT for 25 years until he retired in 1991. He attended Taylorville Baptist Church. Henry's favorite activities were; going to Gospel Quartet singings with his daughter, Linda Finney, going to baseball games, family gatherings, watching his favorite TV Show, Sanford and Sons and eating his fried crabs. He loved telling jokes and always kept a smile on the face of all those around him with his fun-loving spirit.
He lives to cherish his memory three sons, Nathaniel Hunter (Carolene) of Portsmouth, Lumumba Lasana (Thandi) of Chesapeake and Larry Hunter (Anita) of Virginia Beach; three daughters Gloria Hunter of Chesapeake, Gwendolyn Hunter of Norfolk and Linda Finney of Chesapeake; sister, Elma Gilmore of New York; granddaughters Bonita Tedesco of Orlando, Florida, Regina Hunter of Cherry Hill, NJ, Lanika Lasana of Jacksonville, Florida and a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, special friends Andrew Brooks, Claude Dudley and a host of other relatives and friends.
The viewing will be held from 3-7pm on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, VA 23324. The Funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, May 24, 2014 at New Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, 1952 Campostella Rd., Chesapeake, Virginia 23324. The Internment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at New Mount Olive A.M.E. Church.
