Obituary

Herman Dennis Bishop, son of the late James Shorey & Beatrice Bishop was born on September 16, 1924 in the rural parish of St. Lucy, Barbados, West Indies. Herman attended St Leonard's Boy School, where he obtained his secondary education and a love for tools and machinery.

From his love for machinery, Herman went on to work at Spring Hall Sugar Cane Factory, manufacturing Sugar and Molasses and transporting them from the factory to the various shops and to the harbor for export. In those days Barbados was one of the leading producers of Sugar Cane, thus his task was very important to our Industry.

At the age of 32, Herman migrated to the USA, where he spent the remainder of his days. Herman was never a man of many words but he expressed his love through his actions and this love was demonstrated as he kept in constant contact with his mom, who he loved dearly and his only daughter Beverley Bishop, this love eventually led him to send for Beverley (his Baby) to live with him in the USA.

Herman spent his years as a custodian in USA until his retirement in 1991 and came home to continue helping his friends and neighbors and taking care of his late wife Claudine Bishop, who went on to be with the Lord in 2012

Herman attended Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ under of the leadership of Dr. Bishop Harley.

On December 13th, 2019 dad decided he had fought a good fight and knew that he had made his election sure and went on peacefully to be with the lord. Although my Dad may never have said it aloud, I know that he was truly proud of me and I am happy that I could have spent some quality time with him in his last days. He now leaves to mourn his beloved daughter Beverley Bishop, his sisters Waple Bishop, Phyllis Bishop & Vera Bishop, (Barbados) Brother Othneil Bishop(Deceased), three grandchildren, Jennifer, Joy & Peter, seven(7) great grandchildren & six (6) great great grandchildren, nephews Andy, Val & Derrick, many more nieces & nephews too numerous to mention and friend Larry Gardiner.

Dad you have gone on to be with the Lord may your soul rest in peace in the bosom of Jesus and we love you until eternity.

A funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday, December 20, 2019 at Cathedral of Faith Church Of God In Christ, where viewing will be at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements.
