Obituary
Ida Loupenia Mangum Miltier, 89, of Portsmouth, VA, passed from this life to her eternal heavenly home on November 9, 2013.
"Penia" ,as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was born August 10, 1924 and educated in Spring Hope, NC to the late John and Mittie E Mangum, she is predeceased by her husband, Joseph T Miltier; two sisters, Doreatha M Pretlow, and Geraline M Ashe, and her brother Walter L Mangum.
A graduate of Tidewater Community College and a 30 year retiree of the Portsmouth Public School system, she received the lifetime membership award from the Virginia Conference of Parents and Teachers, served on the Ways and Means committee of the Portsmouth Chapter of the VSFSA (Virginia School Food Service Association). She served as an officer and founding member of the Twelve Ladies of Thrift and the Baker's Dozen social and community organizations. She was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA.
She was a charitable and fun-loving woman whose doors to her home were always open with something tasty to eat. She was an avid fisherman, loved the snow and her many dogs. Her indomitable spirit and faith in the Master sustained her through her journey of more than 15 years of life with Alzheimers disease.
Left to cherish her memory are two children, Rosalind M Richards (Ronald) of Dallas, TX and Quinton L Miltier (Dawn) of Chesterfield, VA; five grandchildren, Mia N Thrash of Washington DC; Piers L Miltier-Ferguson of Baltimore, MD; Quinton L Miltier, Payton L Miltier, Perri L Miltier of
Chesterfield, VA; three great-grandchildren, Viance L Ferguson, Vaelyn L Ferguson and Quante L Ferguson of Baltimore, MD; her sister Elder Mittie C Yarbrough of Portsmouth, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, November 14, 2013, at New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA preceding memorial services at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake, VA, arranged by Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, VA.
