Chesapeake
– Isaac B. James, "Ike", 76, of the 2000 block of King Ct. , departed this life Monday, August 18, 2008 . Born in Florence County , South Carolina , he was educated in the Florence County Public School System. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving tours of duty in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received recognition for his outstanding dedication to his country and retired from the Army in 1973. After his retirement he was employed by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.





He was predeceased by his parents, Valentine and Eva Mae James, and two brothers, Sylvester and Alfred James. Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Virginia Rivers James of Chesapeake; two sons, Alan (Rosalind) of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Derek of Chesapeake; two brothers, Rudolph (Marilyn) of Timmonsville, S.C. and Charles, Sr. (Cherry) of Richmond; three sisters, Rosa Mae Belcher and Betty Jean Allison of Richmond, and Gladys James Bennett of Timmonsville , S.C.; sisters-in-law, Elnora James of Richmond, Bonnie Kay James of Timmonsville, Belva T. Rivers of Norfolk, Barbara Covel (Ben) of Brooklyn, NY, and Erlene Foster (Warren) of Chesapeake; stepbrother, Aubrey Spencer of Portsmouth, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.





A funeral service will be held 12:30 pm Saturday in the chapel of Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake . Viewing will be held 2pm – 7pm Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Albert G. Horton Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery , Suffolk .
