Chesapeake - James E. Bellamy of the 2100 block of Rock Creek Drive departed this life January 21, 2014. Born in Edgecomb County, NC, he was a graduate of Norfolk State University and he served in the United States Army. He retired from Liggett and Myers Inc. and the Chesapeake Public School system.

James was a member of New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church. He was affiliated with the Chesapeake Men for Progress, Chesapeake Economic Development Authority, NAACP, Chesapeake Forward, Norfolk State University Alumni and the Improved Masonic Lodge 192.

He is survived by his wife, Doris McCoy Bellamy, Chesapeake; son, James E. Bellamy, Jr, Richmond; daughters, Lisa Bellamy Vernon (Leo) and Leslie B. Bellamy both of Chesapeake; grandson, Nicholas Alexander Bellamy, Chesapeake; sisters, Catherine Sanders and Hattie M. Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 10:00a.m., Monday at New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The viewing will be Sunday from 2-5pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.
