James L. Elliott Sr. 89, a resident of Portsmouth, VA., entered peacefully into eternal rest at Maryview Medical Center, in Portsmouth, on March 8, 2014 with his family close by his side. He was a devoted husband to Annie Laura (Martin) Elliott, and the father of six children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He leaves behind a host of other loving relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Maryview Medical Center as well as the 4th & 5th floor doctors, nurses and staff at Maryview Medical Center for the compassionate care they gave to our father, James, during his final days.

Visitation will take place at Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, Virginia from 12pm until 5pm Sunday, March 16, 2014. A celebration of life will be held Monday, March 17, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at Union Bethel Baptist Church, 1817 Jolliff Road, Chesapeake, Virginia. Interment will convene at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran Cemetery.
