Virginia Beach - James Harrel Rogers, Sr., 74, of the 800 block of Drift Tide Drive departed this life December 19, 2006. Born in Jackson, Tennessee, he served in the United States Navy and retired after 21 years of dedicated service, and he was a civil service employee for 20 years until his retirement. He was member of Christ Pentecostal Church, and a member of the Boiler Makers Union.



His daughter, Rosalind Rogers-Carmichael, predeceases him. Survivors include, his daughter, Gwendolyn Rogers Daniels of Fayetteville, Georgia, three sons, Patrick Rogers of Norfolk, James Rogers, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and Raymond Rogers of Troutville, Virginia and their mother, Mary L. Rogers of Norfolk; his mother, Ceoria Rogers of Gary, Indiana; two sisters, Aeragene Williams of Gary, Indiana, and Laowida Barge of Merryville, Indiana; two brothers, Wiliam C. Rogers of Merryville, Indiana and Paris Davis of Gary, Indiana; two granddaughters, LaKeisha Griffin, and Michelle Phalo; four grandsons, Raymond Griffin, Dante? Rogers, Keverth and Jarvis Carmichael; three great grandsons, Quintez, Taeyion, and Raymond, Jr., and a host of relatives and friends.



A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Pentecostal Church, Norfolk. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton. Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
