James P. Swain, 78, of the 1200 block of Drayton Road was called home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2013. He was owner and operator of Swain Plastering for over 35 years until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Cathedral of Faith Church Of God In Christ where he served faithfully as a Deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Evangelist Ruby M. Swain of Chesapeake; one son, James Junior Swain of Georgia; a grandson, James Porter Swain Jr., of Virginia; three sisters, Clementine Peoples (Bennie) of Norfolk, Sadie Hunter of Florida, and Iris Spencer of Norfolk; one brother, Jackie Swain (Patricia) of Norfolk; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Jean Boone of Norfolk and Joyce Swain of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A home-going celebration will be held noon Wednesday at Cathedral of Faith Church of God In Christ with Bishop G. Wesley Hardy, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 3-7pm Tuesday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.
