James L. Sykes (AKA Dee-Dee) was born to the union of Margie L. Sykes and Wilson Sykes on December 25, 1959 in Jackson, North Carolina. He lived a good life and was kind to all those he came in contact with.

James was a faithful member of Enoch Baptist Church until his health began to fail. He had a way of calling you early in the morning, and would call until you answered the phone. James grew up in the Norfolk Parkplace and Lambers Point sections where he was well known. He will be missed dearly. Sleep well my brother, I'll see ypu in the morning.

James was preceeded in death by his mother Margie L. Sykes, his father Wilson Sykes, and his oldest brother Johnny W. Sykes. He leaves to mourn his twin brothers Floyd C. Sykes (Janet) of Norfolk, VA, and Walter D. Sykes of Baltimore, MD; two aunts Delois Stancil and Rita McCoy of Norfolk, VA, and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, w hen sorrows like sea billows roll ; whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well, with my soul. Sleep well my brother.

Viewing will be held Friday, April 8, 2022 from 10:30 am until 11:30 am at Enoch Baptist Church, 5641 Herbert Moore Road, Virginia Beach, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements.
