Obituary

Janice Durant Holt peacefully departed this life surrounded by family on October 4, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Demetry T. Durant and James E. Durant, Sr. Janice was born a twin to her brother James.

Janice was raised in the Berkley section of Norfolk Virginia and educated in the Norfolk Public School system. She was a 1974 graduate of Lake Taylor High School and attended Norfolk State University majoring in English.

Janice was employed by Decorum Furniture in Norfolk, Va. as an office manager for over thirty years. She retired in 2019 after so many years of service to the company.

Janice loved her family and especially her dog Bruno. She was the mother of two sons, Brandon and Breon whom she loved dearly. She raised them to be respectful of all people and to put God first in every aspect of their lives.

She loved to cook and experiment with recipes, herbs and spices that she sometimes planted and grew in her back yard. Janice always shared these recipes with her best friends (BFF'S) Mildred, Sheila and others. She was an avid reader, excellent crafter (beading and crocheting), always tackling home projects using drills and hammers. Janice thoroughly loved traveling, and her trips to Rome Italy and the Bahamas were some of the highlights in her life. The greatest passion of Janice's was helping others who were in need. She was always there if anyone needed food or transportation. She was a member of the group "The Friends of Joe Austin" a group devoted to keeping the life of a longtime friend and honoring him annually.

Janice attended Westside Church in Chesapeake, Virginia, where she worked with the food ministry while in attendance at the church.

Janice leaves to cherish her memories; sons Brandon Holt, Breon Holt (Erin), and Bruno (dog). Her sisters Barbara T. Woodhouse (Richard), Barbara Williams; brothers James E. Durant, Jr. (Celestine), and Derrick Brown (Robin); aunts Naomi Swint, Dorothy Durant, and Mary Durant; nephews Christopher Woodhouse (Suprina), Rodney Woodhouse (Kimberly), Rodney Smith, Cornelius Halsey (Victoria), Christopher Pollard, Travon Stephenson, Rasheed Evans, Rashad Evans, Richard I. Woodhouse, and Cornelius Halsey, Jr.; nieces Raevyn Woodhouse and Nyla Halsey, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
