Obituary

On January 15, 2017 Jeanette Hayslett Wallace was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Jeanette was born on February 19, 1930 to the late John and Mattie Hayslett. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Clarence Wallace. Jeanette served the City of Chesapeake as a music teacher for 37 years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Berkley and several other organizations including the Tidewater Area Musicians Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians, the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Chesapeake Retired Teachers Association, Tidewater Music Teachers Forum Chapter of Music Teachers National Association and Tidewater Alumni of Virginia State University. Jeanette was an organist and pianist for many churches in the Tidewater area.

With the talent God gave her for music, she inspired countless students in song and piano. Greeting others with a great smile, a hearty laugh and a song in her heart was a reflection of her joyful Christ-like spirit. Devotion to her family was a hallmark of her life. She was deeply involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
