Jessie Ashby Sr. of the 5400 block of Indian River Road departed this life March 27, 2013. He was employed by Borden Chemical Company/Smith-Douglass for 36 years until his retirement. He was a life member of New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church, and a member of the Masonic Prince Hall.

He is predeceased by his wife, Ella Mae Taylor Ashby. Survivors include four daughters, four sons, five sisters, one brother, twenty nine grandchildren, forty six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will held from 12-5pm Sunday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.
