Norfolk – John Allen Owens, Jr. was born October 5, 1937 to the late John Allen Owens, Sr, and Birsetta Britton Owens. John married Mildred Hudgins Owens on September 26, 1956. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service. He also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth in 2002.

On Friday morning, December 10, 2010, God summoned John to enter eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 54 years, Mildred, six children, Tracey Owens of Hopewell, VA, Debra Harden (Carl) of Killeen, TX, Johnical Owens of Virginia Beach, VA, Gregory Owens of Richmond, VA, Clovita Owens of Norfolk, VA, and Michelle Jones (Timothy) of Stafford, VA; 10 grandchildren, three sisters, Jeanette Livingston, Rosa Mack and Dorothy Clark;one brother, Leroy Owens, and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at First Baptist Campostella, in Norfolk at noon. Interment will held 2:00 pm Monday, December 20, 2010 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be held Thursday from 3-7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where the family will receive friends from 6-7pm.
