Chesapeake - Joseph Sidney Johnson, 69, of the 1400 block of Whittamore Road, our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend entered into Paradise on October 18, 2007. Born in Louisburg, North Carolina,  August 11, 1939, he was the son of the late Gladys Alston and Dalton Johnson.Joe was a lifelong resident of Chesapeake and Norfolk. He was educated in the Norfolk Public School System, and worked as a long distance truck driver for over ten years. He was employed with Oil Transport, worked as a dump truck driver with Higgerson-Buchanan, Inc., worked with the City of Chesapeake Public Works: Street, Highway and Utility Department, where he drove trucks, backhoe diggers and laid water pipes. In his last years he worked at the Norfolk Naval Base as a custodian were he retired from Pride Industries.He will be missed and remembered by his wife Joyce Johnson; three sons, Vincent, Kord Johnson and Calvin Boxdale; two daughters, Karen Thomas and Veronica Daniels, one granddaughter, Lashaun Dixon; three grandsons, La?Ron Johnson, Alex Johnson, and Khalid Daniels; one great grandson, Maurice A. Wine, Jr., a long  lifetime loving friend Veronica J. White, and  host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.





A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Monday from 12pm - 5pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
