Joyce Lanea Hines Brooks was born to loving parents, Willie and Littie Hines on April 6, 1959, in Warren, Arkansas.  Joyce transitioned to her heavenly home Friday, November 18, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Willie Ray Hines.

Joyce and her family moved to Pasadena, California in 1959 and Joyce successfully matriculated through the Pasadena school system where she attended and graduated from Pasadena High School. She went on to attend Pasadena Community College and earned her certification in early childhood education, a true testament to her love for children, which was demonstrated by the many young lives she touched.  Her love for children was on full display and demonstrated when selflessly she accepted and served in the role of mother to Alan Ray Phillips, Wanama Charmaine Purnell (Alan Purnell), Otha Lamont Shamburger, Jeron M. Shamburger, Tiana Tena Hines and Robert Hines Jr.

Joyce was a woman of many talents.  She enjoyed baking, decorating and making homemade candy lollipops for all the kids on every holiday. She enjoyed watching sports and keeping stats on her favorite sports teams, LA Lakers, and the Green Bay Packers.

Joyce is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 22 years, Mr. Daniel Brooks; her child in love, Alan Ray Phillips; her siblings: Willie Ray Hines, Rae Dene Hines, Robert Wayne Hines, LaWanda Scott, Paula Scott and Ricky Scott; 7 grand-children; 17 grand nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A viewing will be held from 11 am until 2pm Satuaruday, November 26, 2022 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, Virginia. There will be a service held in Califorina on Saturday, December 3, 2022.
