Chesapeake - Junius Smith, 73, departed this life November 3, 2006. A native of Virginia, he was employed with Septa Transit of Philadelphia, where he retired after more than 20 years of service. He was a United States Army and Navy Veteran, and a member of New Calvary Baptist Church, where he was Deacon Emeritus. Also, he was a Mason.
He is predeceased by his wife, Floretta K. Smith. Survivors include three daughters, Eugenia Jones (Vernon) of Norfolk, Nanette Y. Sunkett (Gordon) of N.J., and Wanda E. Wiggins (Oscar) of N.C.; two sons, Anthony Smith (Celeste) of Houston, TX, and Lamont Smith (Janaka) of Dallas, TX; stepson, Derrick R. Minus (Barbara) of Houston, TX; one brother, Leon E. Smith of New York, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at New Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be held Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements.
