IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lamon Linear
Cherry, Sr.
August 15, 1947 – November 19, 2022
As the sun began to set on Saturday, November 19, 2022, Lamon Linear Cherry Sr. quietly slipped away to be with our Father in heaven. Thank God for the beautiful life he lived. He was born on August 15, 1947, and was the son of the late Al Morton Cherry Sr. and Mary Cherry.
Lamon graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1965, where he played the trumpet and saxophone in the band. After graduating, he shortly attended Norfolk State University until he joined the United States Air Force, where he reached the rank of Sargent. During his time in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, Lamon received many awards and certificates for his job well done. He retired from the military after four years of service. He met and married the love of his life, Gilda White Cherry, and began working at the Norfolk Naval Air Station as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement. They have two children, Lisa and Lamon Cherry Jr.
He was very passionate about the Lord and gave his life to Christ. As a child, he attended St Thomas AME Zion church. In his adult years, he attended Jerusalem Baptist Church and later Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist church, where he was a trustee and sang in the male chorus. His other passions and pastimes were fishing, boating, watching various sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Lamon's legacy is his great love and selflessness for his fellow man. Never a day passed that he didn't stop to help his family and friends. If we can learn one lesson from him, it would be to love each other, and the life God has given us.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gilda Cherry; daughter, Lisa Turner (Ronald); son, Lamon Cherry Jr. (Elizabeth); brother, Al Cherry Jr. (Sheryl); grandsons, Isaiah and Micah Turner, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
