Leon Earl Smith was born September 7, 1929, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Linwood and Martha Smith. He was the fourth of six children.
He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon completion of his High School education, Leon left Virginia and relocated to New York City, NY. He met and was unioned in marriage to Shirley Toones, as they made their life in New York. Later, Leon went to serve his country being drafted in the US Army. After his discharge from the military, Leon gained employment as a Motorman for the New York Transit Authority. After more than twenty years of service to the New York Transit, he retired and lived his life as he saw fit. Leon was also a member of the Masonic Order.
Leon was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley Smith. He leaves to mourn his passing, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 3-7pm Monday at the funeral home.
